Andy Volpe: The Studio
|
|
I currently rent a small Studio space, located in the historic 1826 Mill part of the former Whitins Machine Works in Whitinsville MA (Part of Northbridge MA). The site of "The Shop" is now Alternatives Unlimited.
I have been in the space since 2010, and I'm slowly adding furnishings and items. But, it's a lovely little spot, I am right next to the falls at the Mumford River, and walking distance to several shops and eateries on the 'main strip' of Church Street. I
do not currently have a regular schedule of hours. But
visitation by appointment is certainly possible. Please
email me to arrange a day and time.
I try to hold several "Open Studios" during the year, where the public is welcome to come in and see my artwork, which will also be available for sale, as well as times where I'll be demonstrating a particular technique, if I'm not working on a project itself. Alternatives Unlimited also has a number of open events on the Patio right next to the Studio, usually a Concert series in Mid-summer to early Fall. During these I've had my door open and have had a good crowd come through. Currently the basement floor of the Brick Mill is being renovated to become a museum showing the history of the mill and industrialization of the Blackstone Valley region. I hope to coordinate with this museum during their tour hours, etc. So, stay tuned.
Here is a quick list of some of my Avian "neighbors", in
order, more or less, of frequency: Chimney Swifts ("residents" in the chimney at the adjacent Singh Performance center and other buildings) Crows Mallards
Mute Swans (a pair resides further up-river along Douglas Rd) Hooded Mergansers (usually in the late winter) Great Blue Heron Red Tail Hawks
Turkey Vultures
House Sparrows (yeah, where can you go where they haven't
taken over everything?...Antarctica?)
Pintail Duck (briefly in the Spring Migration, probably taking
a break from flying) Bald Eagle (well, not "resident", but have had at least two pass through over the years) Screech Owl (not seen but heard, which is what I'm sure they prefer)
